Detailed information

Product detailed description

Moktak is a traditional wooden fish-shaped instrument used in Buddhist temples for chanting sutras, ceremonies, rituals or to summon people to meditation. It originates from East Asia and is used in China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam and other Asian countries.

It is a hollow, round instrument with a hole, made from a single piece of wood. The rhythm is given by the blows of a wooden mallet.

Moktaks can be of various sizes - from 15 cm for use in everyday practice to more than one meter in size, which are used in temples on special occasions.

Moktaks, which are used in the Korean Zen tradition for regular practice, are usually placed on the right side of the altar on a soft cushion to prevent unpleasant sounds when placed on the altar and also to prevent damage to the instrument. They are often hand-carved with beautiful ornaments.

Moktak je v dobré kvalitě, má skvělý zvuk a do ženských rukou skvěle pasuje a není těžký. 😉
